If you’re just starting to consider a role at Enterprise or are new to Enterprise, you may not be thinking of relocation this early in your job search or career. But I want to challenge that. Indulge me for a few minutes, because this one idea could open you up to so many amazing opportunities.
Location is everything, and I get that. And the thought of relocating may feel frightening at first. However, if you’re considering a career at Enterprise, hopefully you already know that we promote 100% from within for our operational roles. This means that if you keep an open mind and consider job opportunities beyond your own backyard – you could take big steps in your career, and fast.
In the last 7 years, I have been fortunate to move twice with Enterprise: first from Tennessee to South Carolina and then to Southern California. The promotions that came along with these moves have brought me to my current role as Group Talent Development Manager.
While moving is inherently stressful and starting over in a new place can be intimidating, there are multiple benefits to doing so – and they go beyond career opportunities.

Advance your career trajectory
Being open to relocation communicates to others that I am flexible and ready to take on new challenges, which ultimately means I have more opportunity for future promotions. My own personal experience working in three different regions has also broadened my business acumen and made me a more marketable candidate for different opportunities within the company.
Moving is not a requirement to get ahead at Enterprise, nor is it necessary for every position. However, I, along with hundreds of other employees each year, have found that relocating can be a fantastic opportunity for career growth. Enterprise offers amazing mobility support and makes sure you and your family have the resources you need for a smooth transition.
Explore a new environment
Relocating offers you a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get to know a new environment in an immersive way. It’s a great opportunity to break your routine and move beyond your comfort zone. My fiancé and I have enjoyed dining at new restaurants, visiting unique attractions, and exploring parks, beaches, and destinations that we otherwise would not have normally experienced.
Our move to South Carolina three years ago opened the door to awesome cities like Greenville, Charleston and Savannah, GA. Our recent move to California has brought us closer to friends on the West Coast and places like Hawaii and Mexico. Along the way, we have created new memories and friendships that will set us on the path to even more new experiences in the future.
Broaden your network
In addition to meeting new neighbors and building friendships, you’ll gain a large, welcoming group of new coworkers! There’s nothing like moving to a new location to expand your professional network. You’ll have a chance to work with a new team of individuals who will share their different perspectives and drive you to accomplish your personal and professional goals. A move enables you to gain new mentors who will help propel your career to new heights.
I am honored to have numerous mentors and colleagues who have intentionally invested in my development from my time as a Management Trainee seven years ago, to my current role in Human Resources. Once you’re promoted to your next opportunity, the relationships you built don’t end. I always enjoy receiving calls and emails from past coworkers asking for feedback or just to say a simple hello.
