A Multi-Modal Business Trip Experiment: From the U.K. to Paris Using Four Modes of Transport

At Enterprise Mobility, we believe the journey is just as important as the destination.

Through our diverse mobility offerings, we’re creating enjoyable experiences to get customers where they need to go – whether that’s through car rental, fleet management, flexible vehicle hire, carsharing, truck rental, luxury rental, retail car sales, vehicle subscription or other transportation technology services and solutions.

As we strive to meet all kinds of journeys, this also means helping customers to use more than one mode of transport in a single trip, known as a multi-modal journey.

Across brands and business lines, Enterprise Mobility’s extensive network is helping to bridge connected journeys, opening new avenues for all travelers as well as businesses wanting to offer employees a better travel experience. We’re collaborating with partners, like Brompton® Bike Hire, a U.K. mobility partner, as well as others like GO-HI, a transport booking app in the Highlands and Islands region of Scotland, U.K, to help enable travelers to plan their journey using a variety of transport options.

Our customers’ needs are top of mind. When we interviewed 4,000 business travelers across France, Germany, Spain and the U.K.* to understand more about their travel needs, they told us that cars are essential to business trips.

In fact, nearly a third (26%) of their business trips were possible using public transport alone. Yet, on average more than half told us that they would like their companies to help them use connected or multi-modal journeys more often.

So, what does a multi-modal journey look like and what are some of the options for customers to try? James Lancaster, head of European mobility innovation at Enterprise Mobility, tested the idea of connected journeys and travelled from London to Paris for a mobility conference. As part of the experiment, we teamed up with Brompton Bike Hire, who offers folding, compact bikes for travel, and invited Brompton’s U.K. Managing Director Julian Scriven to join James on the journey.
